Dog Identification Tag

A dog identification tag is absolutely necessary when it comes to the safety and protection of your dog. Dogs love to run and play outdoors and sometimes they get so wrapped up in what they are doing that they get lost. Even if your dog is supervised at all times, the unpredictable can happen...your dog should always be wearing some form of identification for those unexpected times.

Any dog has the potential to get loose at anytime, anywhere. If this happens, your dogs natural instinct to explore can take over and it may take a long time to find him/her again. If they are wearing identification tags, the chances of being found and returned are much greater than without the identification.

There are many styles of dog identification tags.

To name a few:

  • the plain metal ones look just like dog tags the military uses
  • plastic dog tags come in numerous attractive colors
  • dog tags in a huge variety of shapes and colors can be found in some pet stores and online.

Dog tags should be worn at all times, not just when they are outdoors. Dogs can get loose just by squeazing through a doorway accidentally left open. In addition to letting strangers know where they live, a dog wearing a tag also shows that they dog is domestic and most-likely not dangerous however you should always take care when approaching a strange dog.

In addition to dog identification tags, microchipping your dog is something you should also consider. Most veterinarian practices have a microchip reader and can find where a dogs owner is within a few minutes (providing the information remains current). It is one of the easiest and inexpensive way of assuring that your dog will be returned to you if he or she gets lost.

Greyt Inspirations has created a unique "Jingle-Not Collar" (aka Tag Collars) specifically for dog identification tags to be worn 24/7. Check them out at Jingle-Not Collars.
